The movie, including all the previews, take two hours to watch.

The movie, including all the previews, takes two hours to watch.

 

Sometimes the subject is separated from the verb by such words as “along with”, “as well as”, “besides”, “not”, “including”, etc. These words and phrases are not part of the subject. Ignore them and use a singular verb when the subject is singular.

 

Examples:

The politician, along with the newsmen, is expected shortly.

[The subject the politician is singular takes a singular verb is.]

 

Excitement, as well as nervousness, is the cause of her shaking.

[The subject excitement agrees with the verb is. They both are singular.]
