Another problem with translating is that you will be trying to incorporate grammar rules that you have learned. Translating and thinking about grammar to create English sentences should be avoided because this will slow you down.
To help you avoid translating is to watch a lot of television (TV series and talk shows) and movies, also listen to people speaking – English conversational – where the words go a bit fast. Once you are accustomed to the common phrases used by the native speakers, use them – speak in English all the time and use the phrases you have learned or picked up from television. Talking with native English speakers will also help you get used to the natural English used in everyday conversation.
In a nutshell:
- Stop translating, start thinking in English.
- Learn phrases.
- Watch a lot of television and listen to people speaking.
- Speak in English all the time.
